To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly be broken. If you want to be sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one - not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safely in the casket or the coffin of your selfishness. But, in that casket- safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, unredeemable. The only place outside heaven where you can be safe from all the dangers and perturbations of love, is hell.

All dressed up

Today I smartened up Terence's teddy bear. If you haven't been inside his car, here's a peek at what it looks like:

It's a cheeky little one - absolutely adorable when seen from the passenger seat, quite disarmingly rakish really, but pretty nondescript from the driver's seat. Definitely a ladykiller, that one.

So anyway a couple of weeks ago I bought a yellow ribbon (part of a campaign that helps ex-convicts reassimilate into society) but never got round to pinning it anywhere. It was still buried in my bag when Terence dragged me out for lunch today and I thought: what better place to display it than on the teddy bear, which enjoys pride of place right smack in the middle of his dashboard?

And so the rake does its bit for a worthy cause. You can do your part too - if you see anyone canvassing for donations for the Yellow Ribbon Project, you can buy your own yellow ribbon or just contribute to the fund. :)

On a somewhat related note, I now have solid evidence that Terence isn't just a simple nice guy, contrary to what my floor girls might think.

The man revealed his shady side when he let slip today that maybe picking up plumbing might come in handy one day, should he decide to start his own plumbing business.

That sounds quite innocent and all, but don't be fooled. What he really has in mind is something along Desperate Housewives lines, where the gardener doesn't just do the gardening. It's going to be full services, satisfaction guaranteed, and only for neglected trophy wives in high society households. In fact, he's already thought up the tagline: We Take Care Of All Your Plumbing Needs. And if that doesn't make you laugh - well congratulations, you're not as dirty-minded as you think.
