To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly be broken. If you want to be sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one - not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safely in the casket or the coffin of your selfishness. But, in that casket- safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, unredeemable. The only place outside heaven where you can be safe from all the dangers and perturbations of love, is hell.

When disillusionment sinks in.

Why is so difficult to earn an honest living without compromising my values and beliefs?

When photographers start making sleazy requests, when all the job offers entail wearing a bikini top, and when staying true to myself means I'm "difficult"... it's hard to stay positive about what I'm doing.

hey babe, you're damn pro. don't let such shit take you dwn alrights? :)

hi! it's this the reason why u wish to terminate ur contract?

qinmei: thanks for the words of encouragement girl. :)

anon: not really, though it's a factor. it's really quite complicated.

really. im hope to ask so much. but can u share a little? cos i almost wanted to join JCM. :P

ashley

im sorry to ask so much i mean. :)

hey ashley. it's a really long story, but in a nutshell jcm basically treats its models as commodities. they don't really give a shit about our welfare. to them we're just money-making machines and they'll do anything to get us to accept assignments. eg they'll withhold the truth about the assignment (having to wear a bikini) until we've already accepted, since once we've said yes we can't back out, otherwise we have to pay them compensation. they'll also lie to us or withhold the truth in other ways just to get us to do what they want.

and then of course there's the fact that we're not very well-paid, compared to others in the same industry. jcm rates are known to be the lowest; that's one reason why they get the most jobs. but in addition they also take a hefty chunk of commission, so we get paid shit rates. i did a gig once where i was paid $100, but the company actually paid jcm $400 for my services. freelancing can get you much better pay.

roxydoll: Yup, no it's not agent la, it's JCM... I only have one freelance agent contact right now, she's been fine, not a lot of jobs, but very decent dance gigs (choreographed performance kind). If you don't mind, could you pass me your freelance contacts? I'll approach them direct so that I won't have to trouble you to pass me assignments (the last time I spoke to you about it, I was asking you to pass me promo gigs...) :)

hey ying,

im sorry to hear what has happened. so have u talked to them about terminating ur contract matters? does jeffrey allow?

well i guess that is why jcm has the baddest reputation around and most of their models come and go!

jolin

Jolin: nope, I haven't spoken to Jeffrey yet. He was out of town when I went down to the agency to try and terminate my contract. Technically they can't stop me if I want to quit; there's nothing in the contract that prevents me from doing so. It's just that it could turn out to be quite ugly since they're very good at the emotional blackmail and just generally being very pushy.
