To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly be broken. If you want to be sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one - not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safely in the casket or the coffin of your selfishness. But, in that casket- safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, unredeemable. The only place outside heaven where you can be safe from all the dangers and perturbations of love, is hell.

Sneak a peek

The boy made me clean my room this afternoon, after a tie that he'd borrowed from a friend disappeared without a trace in my room. The slavedriver even made me fetch him a marker and a piece of paper and then made me stick it somewhere prominent after he'd scribbled on it.

I almost fell off my chair when he handed it back to me and I saw what he'd written:

That man treats me like a total child sometimes... but I love him to bits. The sweetie won a box fan as a lucky draw prize in an army function yesterday, and he gave it to me because my room is too damn hot. It doesn't look like much but it's pretty effective:

Anyway, I didn't find the tie, but at least the corner of my table looks a little neater now.

1: An anniversary gift from the boy many months back. The photo frame contains a flower that I'd actually given him the month before; he dried it and pressed it and gave it right back to me. Tsk.

2. A present from Rachel - a mirror that she'd decorated with tons of sequins in sparkly swirls. Pretty!

3. A souvenir from EHOC, this tag says "Gambling Den" and was a Game of Life prop. Very apt descriptor, since my room has on occasion been used to host mahjong sessions.

4. Something that the boy gave me for Christmas, together with a silver anklet. I've been using it as a piggy bank of sorts, to hold my coins.

5. More souvenirs from EHOC - bags of "currency" that were used for the Game of Life. Gold and silver shells, in lovely green gauze ribbon pouches.

6. A present from Fengyi. Yet another addition to my pig collection.

7. My mask from Rag dance. It brings back the loveliest memories.

8. Another gift from Rachel, this one holds a photo of the EHOC programme team, and is decorated with magenta and silver sequins, plus my name in gold glitter. Gorgeous!

9. My latest purchase to arrive in the mail - a lovely mosaic mirror notebook!

10. Something from June, for absolutely no rhyme or reason. What a total sweetie. :)
