To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly be broken. If you want to be sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one - not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safely in the casket or the coffin of your selfishness. But, in that casket- safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, unredeemable. The only place outside heaven where you can be safe from all the dangers and perturbations of love, is hell.

Ms Tropicana

At around 4pm yesterday I received a call from Jeffrey asking me to take part in the Ms Tropicana pageant at Club MoMo. Apparently a lot of girls had dropped out at the last minute, so as a last resort, the girls from my modelling class were asked to make up the numbers.

I wasn't really interested (mainly because I was lazing comfortably in my room and didn't feel like budging) but when I spoke to the boy about the contest, he told me to just give it a go and hopefully snag some prizes. After double-checking that I wouldn't be made to parade in a swimsuit or do anything that I might regret, I decided to give it a go.

It was quite fun actually, the getting ready bit. Not the actual pageant itself! That was just scary, strutting on stage alone and having millions of lights go off in my face. There must have been at least twenty photographers crowding the front of the stage, and even a reporter or two. Ugh.

The clothes were sponsored by Honey Brown. Er don't ask, I have no idea who/what they are. But we all wore pink resortwear so that was pretty fun. I was given a smocked halter and cropped pants with slits along the sides. I ended up doing my own hair and makeup though - the makeup artists had too many girls to handle so some of us did it ourselves.

Raine - doesn't she look like Michelle Chong?

Richelle. The sweetest thing.

All the girls in my class!

We were told that it would be direct finals but as it turned out, yesterday was only the heats. Since we all made it through to the finals, we'll be going back to MoMo for yet another night of unpaid labour. Oh well, at least the company's good (I love these girls!) and there's always the chance that we might win something. Trip to Hong Kong, Motorola phones, Honey Brown vouchers, and so on. Hmm. Ok I'm quite glad I went after all, because it was good catwalk practice, and I experienced the terrifying ordeal of having so many eyes trained on me. That should come in handy for my first fashion show on Monday. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I don't screw it up!
