To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly be broken. If you want to be sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one - not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safely in the casket or the coffin of your selfishness. But, in that casket- safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, unredeemable. The only place outside heaven where you can be safe from all the dangers and perturbations of love, is hell.

The mind is a terrible thing to waste.
I've been guilty of intellectual atrophy.
All I've been reading is garbage, and that's if I'm reading anything at all. All I've been engaging in is small talk, inane slapstick, and frivolous cooings.
Whatever happened to the little girl who read at least one book a day on average all the way from kindergarten to secondary school? Who bought puzzle books and did crossword puzzles, brainteasers, and word searches for fun? Who devoured books on topics like gemstones, astronomy, and the wonders of the natural world?
That little girl grew up, discovered the joys of activity, the thrills of love, the luxury of indulgences... and never realised that she'd changed.
