To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly be broken. If you want to be sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one - not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safely in the casket or the coffin of your selfishness. But, in that casket- safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, unredeemable. The only place outside heaven where you can be safe from all the dangers and perturbations of love, is hell.

ka-ching!

went to town with my parents today. the head of the family ran off after lunch though because he couldn't bear the thought of going shopping with two women so it wasn't much of a family day. he made the right choice la, because my mom and i engaged in a spot of very effective speed shopping. we breezed through most shops, lingering only at tangs and g2000 where my mom got me the following:

♥ champagne slides from tangerine@tangs ($9.90)
♥ black slides - yes, in the same design - from tangerine@tangs ($9.90)
♥ black pinstriped pants from myra.b@tangs ($39)
♥ black skirt with skinny criss-cross belt from g2000 ($34.30)
♥ green sweetheart neckline cardigan from g2000 ($34.20)
♥ white sweater with striped shirt collar from g2000($49 - no discount!)

i swear i had every intention of stopping just at the two pairs of shoes. particularly since my mom kept paying for my purchases. i even resisted picking up any pretty little underthings in The Dressing Room @ Tangs... but i was so well-behaved partly because i didn't want to scandalise the mom by picking out racy lingerie in front of her. anyway i digress.

so after a while my mom asked me why i wasn't checking out the clothes on sale at tangs. i told her it was because they were mainly corporate wear, and i wanted to leave shopping for that until i received my MOE maintenance allowance in a few weeks' time. then i could use my own money to update my teaching wardrobe. but she pointed out that i should just buy whatever caught my eye today since good sales are hard to come by. can't fault the logic there! so i whacked tangs and g2000.

on a (somewhat) related note: did you know that the great singapore sale this year runs for eight weeks?!? looks like i'll need to start earning more money to spend.
