To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly be broken. If you want to be sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one - not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safely in the casket or the coffin of your selfishness. But, in that casket- safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, unredeemable. The only place outside heaven where you can be safe from all the dangers and perturbations of love, is hell.

just rambling

i spent the past two days fiddling with javascript and perfecting the ciara skin. whew. i don't think i'm going to make any dramatic changes to it anytime soon given how much effort i've already spent on it.

when i was finally done, i came to realise that i'm a super unorthodox designer: i don't learn via html tutorials or going for courses, but by looking at existing sources and dissecting the code manually. observation and experimentation may be a somewhat disorganised learning method but it works for me, plus it's far more exciting to learn hands-on than to be spoon-fed.

i think that's how i got an A for Maths C actually. i was completely lost in year 1, getting an O grade for my first common test. that confirmed what my maths teacher was always parroting: that arts students always fail maths. but then my grades improved in direct proportion to the amount of past year papers and practice questions that i did. i started to see the connections and patterns that led to the right answer. and it was this kind of backwards learning - as opposed to attempting to understand a formula before applying it to a problem - that led to a real understanding of the workings of each theorem.

ok enough of nerd talk.

in other news:

♥ i finally received my cheque from oto! it's for a weekend gig that i did in early april. it sure took them long to send it... bloody hell.

♥ i didn't do quite as badly this semester as i'd thought i would. given that i missed 2 out of 5 tests for french (which is 100% CA), i'm lucky to have gotten away with a D+. shit, whatever was i thinking to have missed those tests?!? luckily i also had As and Bs so my overall CAP didn't fall by too much. but all this just means that i have to be a total muggertoad for the rest of my undergraduate life if i want to get that second upper.
