To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly be broken. If you want to be sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one - not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safely in the casket or the coffin of your selfishness. But, in that casket- safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, unredeemable. The only place outside heaven where you can be safe from all the dangers and perturbations of love, is hell.

belated photos!

steamboat surprise

we were told to be prepared to stay back for at least two hours after the run on thursday to "settle some stuff". oh great, i thought - more work to do! on the contrary, after an m&m feedback session (where we had to share our thoughts and feelings in exchange for m&ms), we were led to the jcrc room where a steamboat dinner awaited us.

the food was good, the company was great... and if you want to know what kind of people we have in our comm, squint really hard at the picture. i won't name names, but someone is holding a plastic bowl to a very strategic position. poor shuting! everyone's horns are just starting to come out now. but i'm not complaining - that's what's making this whole ehoc experience increasingly enjoyable.

The Emancipation Of Wenyu

in the other corner we have our dear vice-head clement trying his best to localise wenyu, who's only been in singapore for a little over a year. and this, he believes, is best achieved by expanding his vocabulary to include terms that are commonly used in colloquial language. thanks to his efforts during our steamboat dinner, wenyu can now enunciate and use "lan jiao" and "lan pa" perfectly. oh dear.

as part of the cultural exchange, we picked up a string of chinese swear words from rongfeng. i'm not too sure what "da ni ma ma de xiao ya dian" (hit your mother's small duck shop) really means, but it doesn't sound too good. come to think of it, it sounds downright obscene. but quite cool, nonetheless.

pancakes!

virgenia and i made pancakes when it came to our turn to prepare breakfast for everyone. and this was after i stayed up the whole night to churn out this new blog layout. the pancakes turned out pretty decent - lots of people claimed the pancakes were really yummy. honestly though, it was probably just a case of everything tasting good when you're hungry!
