To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly be broken. If you want to be sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one - not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safely in the casket or the coffin of your selfishness. But, in that casket- safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, unredeemable. The only place outside heaven where you can be safe from all the dangers and perturbations of love, is hell.

the return of the geek
i'd almost forgotten what it was like to be one. it's been a long hiatus since my html/javascript/photoshop days. but then yesterday i installed photoshop CS 9.0 and downloaded all the free plugins i could find and stayed glued to my laptop all day. it was out of necessity - i needed to refamiliarise myself with photoshop for ehoc - but then it became a matter of renewed interest. nerd alert!
the first thing i did was to explore the plugins using a photo of myself and tom:
then i decided to give photo enhancement a whirl. i bugged clement for a photo to mess around with and did the following: removed facial blemishes, reduced oily shine, smoothened the skin, reduced eyebags, lightened dark eye circles, made rach's nose a bit sharper, faded the background, added soft focus lighting, and added sheen to highlight. whew. not that you can actually tell from the tiny thumbnails below, but having seen what a little amateurish photoshopping can do, i can see why xiaxue photoshops all her photos.
and finally... i fiddled with a photo of paris hilton and created this new blog layout. in the process, i got myself reaccquainted with html and stylesheets. not bad for a day's work!
