To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly be broken. If you want to be sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one - not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safely in the casket or the coffin of your selfishness. But, in that casket- safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, unredeemable. The only place outside heaven where you can be safe from all the dangers and perturbations of love, is hell.

next up on the list
i've been stranded without a handphone ever since my samsung clamshell phone got stolen in a club. for more than a month, i've been surviving on a borrowed nokia from tom. i've been hesitant to get my own phone because my own m1 contract isn't up yet but now apparently my dad's singtel line is eligible for an upgrade. i had a peek at the singtel online store and fell in love with this:
ok i lied. i'm actually most in love with the o2 mini but it's not the most practical choice for the following reasons:
1. it's too yummy. someone will steal it. don't scoff - if someone can steal my cheap samsung phone, someone will most definitely want to steal this delectable gizmo.
2. it's too expensive. i'm such a klutz, i'd probably scratch, drop, or lose it in no time. and that would be way more painful than if it had been a cheap phone.
3. my new zen neeon would be rendered redundant and useless since the o2 mini doubles as an mp3 player. no way am i ever going to let that happen - tom would kill me.
4. the same fate would befall my trusty casio exilim since the o2 mini also performs impressively as a digital camera. if i've already got an excellent $700+ digicam, it doesn't make much sense to spend another thousand bucks for an all-in-one phone when i just need an ordinary phone.
so no o2 mini for me, or any splurging on an expensive phone for that matter. still, i can't bring myself to settle for an ugly phone just because it's cheap. must have a pretty phone. and this is where the nokia 7260 comes in - it's a head-turner, plus it's only retailing at $138 with a 2 year contract from singtel.
